Role of private business in civic dialogues for sustainability

Project Summary

Nearly 25 years after the United Nations’ Brundtland Commission convincingly argued for a sustainable economy, this goal remains sadly distant. Western economies are strong, innovative and increasingly efficient, but growth in population and consumer wealth magnifies consumption. Solving these problems nationally or globally requires broad social consensus on what a sustainable society is and how to bring it about. Civic dialogue can achieve such a consensus. This project investigates how private business can participate in or organize civic dialogues on sustainability.
